Occupant Load Calculator

Determines the minimum occupant load per OBC Article 3.1.17.1 and Table 3.1.17.1.

Not covered by this table:

· Assembly with fixed seats: use the actual seat count (3.1.17.1.(1)(a))

· Residential (Group C): 2 persons per sleeping room (3.1.17.1.(1)(b))

· Care / detention (Group B): use the designed or licensed capacity

· If a space is designed for a higher load than the table gives, use the higher value

Based on OBC Table 3.1.17.1, Occupant Load, forming part of Article 3.1.17.1. Applies to the 2024 and 2012 editions. Occupant load shall not be less than the values from this table unless it can be shown the area will be occupied by fewer persons (3.1.17.1.(1)(c)).

Results are rounded up to the nearest whole person (ceiling). Verify all determinations against the specific OBC edition applicable to your project.
